Three years after the Japanese release, Super Mario Bros. 3 finally arrived in the UK, and Nintendo were eager to plug their big new hit for all it was worth. For many, SMB3 would go on to represent 2D platforming perfection from Mario and Nintendo. Its map screen (a first for the SMB series), wide variety of power-ups, and precise platform levels would go on to influence game designers to this day.
Despite SMB3 having the lion's share of the coverage, there was still room for the other big NES and Game Boy releases for Christmas 1991 and beyond. Cartoon family the Simpsons made their video game debut in Bart Vs. The Space Mutants, while other highlights included the latest Lucasarts adventure, Maniac Mansion, and a game based on Disney's cartoon series, Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers.
