Vol. 2 Issue 5

Volume 2 - Issue 5

The Game Boy explodes onto this issue's cover, the only time Club Nintendo featured a console on the cover (not even the SNES got that treatment!). Despite the drawbacks of only displaying games in four shades of green - on a blurry screen, no less! - the GB would go on to become one of the most successful game systems of all time, even taking on the more advanced, colour-screened competition. Tetris was also often bundled with the system; for many, this version of the iconic block-based puzzle game is still considered the definitive one even today.

The NES coverage here mainly consisted of action games revolving around the likes of ninjas, cyborgs, and all-round tough guys. Meanwhile, Bubble Bobble and Adventures of Lolo snuck in to give a good dose of 'cuteness' to proceedings. Whether they were blowing bubbles or sliding blocks, these cuties proved they could stand alongside the more macho heroes.
