Vol. 3 Issue 4

Volume 3 - Issue 4

The boxart for Solstice: The Quest for the Staff of Demnos makes for this issue's striking cover illustration. Solstice was an isometric adventure game in which players had to explore a vast castle in search of the magical staff that would defeat the evil wizard Morbius. For older gaming fans, Solstice's graphics and gameplay felt like the NES equivalent of ZX Spectrum games such as Knight Lore and Head Over Heels.

There was a heavy Game Boy influence to the 'Sneak Peeks' in this issue, with Nintendo's monochrome wonder soon to be graced with all manner of arcade ports, film and TV tie-ins, and other games. Of particular note was F1 Race, early versions of which would be bundled with a four-player adaptor for the GB's link cables, allowing for four-player multiplayer, much like the NES Four Score.
