Zelda II: The Adventure of Link was given the cover treatment for this issue. Often considered the 'black sheep' of the series, Zelda II switched the gameplay from a top-down adventure to a side-scrolling action platform game. However, it was also notable for introducing features that would go on to become Zelda staples, namely the villages that players could explore and the introduction of the Triforce of Courage alongside the Power and Wisdom pieces from the first game.
Continuing with the 'sequels that tried to do things differently' theme, there was a 'Sneak Peek' feature on Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, which swapped the linear stages of the first game for a more exploratory, RPG-style game. A port of the arcade game Rygar topped off a triple selection of fantasy adventure games, although other generes were covered if fantasy adventures weren't to your taste.
