Reaching for the stars with Super FX!

Although game releases for the NES continued throughout the year, by this point it was crystal clear that its 16-bit successor was the main event. The SNES would make even more headlines when Nintendo co-developed the Super FX Chip with Argonaut, thus adding '3D polygon graphics' to the list of the console's capabilities. Meanwhile, the Game Boy was quietly being tended to with a steady stream of releases, staying in the background while the big bad home console truly established itself.
